Located within Tenorio Volcano National Park, Río Celeste (“light blue river”) is not only stunning, it offers a unique experience you won’t get anywhere else in the world. The river’s electric blue hue results from a geological and geomorphological phenomenon. Your expert guide will explain the science behind this natural marvel.
Your 2-hour hike takes you first to an impressive 98-foot waterfall, one of the top photo ops in Costa Rica. On a clear day, you will be able to view the magnificent Tenorio Volcano and its five inactive cones. Finally, at Los Teñideros, you will see the point at which the Buena Vista River and the Agria Ravine converge, which is where the water turns into its remarkable light blue color.
Your tour continues to Finca Verde. At this protected, family-owned area, you will be welcomed with a delicious Costa Rican lunch, followed by a relaxing hike through the sloth reserve and butterfly garden. You may spot Costa Rica’s famous red-eyed frogs, hummingbirds, toucans, and other creatures.
