Though Guanacaste is not a typical part of Costa Rica for coffee production, you can still get a great coffee tour here. The microclimate of the Hojancha region is particularly suited to growing coffee and is home to the Matambu coffee processing plant, a 90-minute drive from Las Catalinas. A tour of the plant will show you all the stages in producing this drink revered throughout the world. From receiving the fruit to packaging the final product, learn about picking and peeling, drying and roasting.
You can taste the freshly produced coffee from the beginning of the tour to the end. Start with a cup of hot coffee and finish with the specialty of the house, a delicious iced coffee accompanied by local delicacies.
