The weekend of our annual triathlon is a fun time to stay in town, either as a participant or as a spectator. This off-road multisport endurance contest started in Las Catalinas in 2013. The course includes swimming, mountain biking, and running, and covers over 40 kilometers of trails, beaches, and waterfront. The race concludes on the town’s pedestrian streets.
Racers participate solo or in teams. Past winners include Olympian Leo Chacón and XTERRA World Champion Rom Akerson. Tri is inclusive of many different skill levels, offering a team relay option; an open-water swimming competition (Aguas Abiertas) with races in two distances; and a kids’ race through the streets of town.
